About AL
Former Blancpain Endurance Series Champion, Alex is a leading International Professional racing driver with vast experience in GT, Sportscars and V8 Supercars. He is currently a Factory driver for Nissan Nismo and has over 30 x 24 Hour race starts on his CV.

In 2017 Alex is leading Nissan’s Challenge in the Pro category of the Blancpain Endurance Series in the GT-R Nismo GT3.

In 2015 Alex made his debut at the Le Mans 24 Hours in the premier LMP1 category driving the #21 Nissan GT-R LM.

Alex was literally born into motorsport. John Buncombe, his grandfather raced during the 1950's and 60's driving for the Works HRG Team, as well as racing Jaguar C-Types, XK120's and Austin Healey's.

His father Jonathan enjoyed a successful career spanning 20 years as a touring car driver, starting out in Mini's and moving on to become a factory driver for Ford, Toyota and BMW.

Inevitably, Alex and his elder Brother, Chris, followed in the family footsteps and started racing together from 8 years old. Starting out on 2 wheels with schoolboy motocross before moving over to karting and junior single seater categories.
Once described as 'Nissan's secret weapon', Alex has played a vital role in the success of Nissan's GT Academy programme since its launch in 2008. Al has been the professional team-mate to each of the graduates, providing them with invaluable guidance thanks to his extensive racing experience and calming influence. Most recently he has mentored Sir Chris Hoy in the British GT Championship.

After Alex drove alongside Lucas Ordonez in the 2009 Dubai 24 Hours, the pair went on to race a full season in the European GT4 Cup in a Nissan 350Z, finishing a close second in the championship but securing the team's title with a win and three second places. He went one better in 2011 when he and Jordan Tresson took the Nissan 370Z to the GT4 title in the 2011 Blancpain Endurance Series.

In 2012, Alex teamed up with 2011 GT Academy winner JannMardenborough to drive the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 race car in the fiercely-contested Blancpain Endurance Series and British GT Championship.

During the last two seasons Al has continued to race the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3, taking another Blancpain Championship win in 2013 and narrowly missing out on a GT300 Super GT win when he made his Japanese debut in the Fuji Sprint Cup.

In 2014 Al made his debut in the Australian V8 Supercars Championship when he joined Todd Kelly for the Endurance races at Sandown, Surfers Paradise and the legendary Bathurst 1000kms in the #7 Jack Daniels Nissan.

Alex also has vast experience in Historic racingand has a number of significant victories to his name, including multiple race wins at the Le Mans Classic and two time winner at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
